Gillette Castle - A Very Peculiar Castle

This is Gillette Castle on the bank of the Connecticut River. Built between 1915 and 1919 by William Gillette who was most famous for portraying Sherlock Holmes in a series of Theatrical shows. He was the first; and actually contacted Arthur Conan Doyle and asked if he could portray Holmes.
Tragedy did strike Gillettes life as his wife died from a burst appendix at the age of 28. Gillette never remarried.
