Check out this Eastern velvet ant! Also called "cow killers" these are not ants but wingless wasps. While their sting is extremely painful, they rarely sting people. Look how iridescent their body is, just beautiful. In this video, you will get to hear one squeaking and learn about their behaviors and neat abilities plus you will see me risk holding one. Enjoy.

I caught myself a Stinkpot turtle! While out on a camping trip in the Pine Barrens of New Jersey, I was exploring a dam. I thought I saw a small turtle swimming about but it kept going under rocks and whatnot. With some patience, I prevailed and caught myself a little Musk turtle. These guys are also called Stinkpot turtles for a good reason. They can stink! They are fairly unique looking in my opinion.

I was filming a cool caterpillar when I found a few assassin bugs in my yard. These ones are Wheel bugs to be more precise. They are impressive and large with a strange wheel like plate on their back. They can bite and it can really hurt, even worse than a hornet sting.

Awesome long tailed salamanders! I was out one day in April of 2014 looking for some herps. I didn't find much aside from a lot of red backed salamanders. After hitting one last spot, I looked under a log I placed there a couple of years ago, I found 3 or 4 long tailed salamanders. They look like other cave salamanders but have different black spots on red skin. It made me pretty happy. It was the first time I have seen them in this area! I shot a short video talking about them and shot some photos then I let them get back to what they were doing.

To answer the question in the title you should I personally think between three and five. Any less you may be limiting yourself anymore you may start to water down your images.

Let's take Colin Herrington's photo site as an example. He has six galleries of images which in itself may not be terrible but to me it feels like at least one too many.

Also once I looked inside a few of the galleries I found myself asking why isn't this in portraiture, why is this in fine art? I think Colin can merge one if not more of his galleries which would in turn cut down on images that may not be strong but will fill one gallery with solid keepers.

On top of that if you are looking at your own gallery and an image gives you pause because you don't think it's very good, GET RID OF IT. I rather have 10 solid keepers than 20 total images with half leaving me scratching my head.
